IESA shines spotlight on Dholera’s semiconductor potential at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit

The India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) took an active role in a crucial panel discussion titled ‘Dholera: India’s First Semicon City in Making’ at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024. This session was part of the 10th Edition of the Global Summit held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The panel, consisting of industry leaders, delved into critical aspects of semiconductor manufacturing and the essential infrastructure requirements for positioning Dholera as a global player.

Adil Saidi, Partner, Strategy and Transactions at Ernst & Young LLP, insisted that the panel explored the emergence of Dholera as India’s pioneering semicon city.  

Sanjay Gupta, Chairperson of IESA and President & CEO of Minda Corporation, provided comprehensive insights into the semiconductor ecosystem in India. He highlighted the challenges faced by the industry and proposed strategic pathways for future advancements. He stressed the importance of creating a robust demand side for semiconductors within India by encouraging the establishment of India-based OEMs and Tier1 brands. 

Addressing various critical topics,Gupta discussed hurdles hindering the growth of the semiconductor sector in India and emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to overcome these challenges. He also explored fostering innovation, encouraging investment, and nurturing a skilled workforce to drive sustainable growth in the semiconductor industry.

Other speakers, including Akarsh Hebbar, Managing Director at AvanStrate Inc., and Hitesh Garg, Vice President & India Country Manager at NXP Semiconductors India Pvt. Ltd., provided insights into the potential of display fab, infrastructure requirements, semiconductor fab, design, and infrastructure requirements. Hem Takiar, Corporate Vice President at Micron Technology, shed light on the ATMP ecosystem for making Gujarat a semicon hub.
