17 new luxury hotels, resorts to come up in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat's tourism landscape is all set to undergo a paradigm shift with 17 new luxury hotels and resorts proposed at different locations in the state. 

The setting up of these hotels and resort properties will bring an investment of Rs 4,340 crore into Gujarat over the next five years, revealed state government sources.

According to the list of proposals received by the state administration, these hotels and resorts by national and international hospitality majors will be established in major industrial and tourist destinations. 

The new properties will come up in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Mehmedabad, Kutch, Dharoi, Sabarkantha, Morbi, Gir Somnath, Gandhinagar and Lakroda.

For instance, Marriott International is set to open its classic luxury hotel, JW Marriott in the Diamond City of Surat, which is expected to be operationalised by 2026. Similarly, Ahmedabad-based Swami Shipping and Hospitality Private Limited will come up with a Palace on the Dumas Beach in Surat, which is expected to commence by 2024.

Tourist and pilgrimage destinations such as Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Dharoi (Mehsana), Kutch, are also set to get new properties Dharoi (Mehsana), Kutch, among others will also get new resorts.

Among the major investors are also Mazgaon Dock ShipBuilders Limited, which is set to infuse Rs 150 crore to develop a 32-person submarine for underwater adventure tourism at Dwarka Gujarat. 

The firm has already signed a memorandum of Understanding with the state government.

‘Better infra will boost inflow’

In fact, Popular Entertainment Network (Pen) India Limited and Laxmi Film Laboratories and Studios limited which have proposed to set up a film studio with resort, five-star hotel and club facilities, according to a state government source.

According to tourism industry experts, the establishment of new properties will give a major boost to inbound tourism in Gujarat.

“Tourism always calls for building new attractions, maintaining existing ones and providing globally benchmarked facilities. Gujarat is already home to popular destinations ranging from pilgrimage sites such as Dwarka, Somnath and Ambaji, hilly regions including Aravallis and Dangs, beach destinations such as Mandvi, Kutch, Porbandar, Dwarka; historical and heritage sites, heritage palace properties, museums and more.

“While the government is focusing on building new tourist attractions, better infrastructure in the hospitality industry will go hand in hand to improve tourist inflow into Gujarat,” said Ankit Bajaj, owner of a travel company based in Ahmedabad.
