Ahmedabad: The University of Wollongong, a prestigious Australian institution, has announced that it will launch its international branch campus (IBC) at Pragya-2 in the GIFT SEZ area by next year. The university will join Deakin University, another Australian university, in offering courses at GIFT City.
The decision to establish its first IBC in India was made by the University of Wollongong after a delegation visited the site in September. The students enrolled at the campus will receive an Australian degree.
Jaxay Shah, founder and CMD, Savvy Group, the developer of the project said, “The University of Wollongong has booked two floors, a total of 50,000 sq feet space in our building that is nearing completion in GIFT SEZ area. The university will start operating by the end of July next year. GIFT City will host international universities, which will help India in curbing brain drain and students will get international education at very low costs. Also, students from neighbouring countries will come to GIFT City to study at a cheaper rate compared to the main campuses of these universities. We are in talks with six more international universities.”
The group said this will be the first ever vertical structure for a university in India and the building will also accommodate large corporates.
