Australian minister at GIFT City on Nov 7, likely to make public fee structure for Deakin varsity

Australian Education Minister Jason Clare will visit GIFT City in Gandhinagar on November 7 to make key announcements about the upcoming Deakin University, the first foreign university to establish an international campus there. The announcements will include the much-anticipated fee structure for Indian students. Deakin University had finalised its international campus plan in August – a 25,000 sq. ft. space that will serve as a platform for learning, working, and networking.

The university is in the process of hiring administrative and academic staff and setting up guidelines for enrolment for courses. “One of the university officials told The Indian Express that there will be a formal announcement on the developments at Deakin University campus at GIFT City,” the document says. The university authorities had previously said that the fee structure is likely to be half of the current fee charged at the Australian campus. The announcements will be made in the presence of prominent leaders from the federal and state governments of Australia and India, as well as top academia and industry representatives.

Clare will also deliver the Australia India Institute’s Annual Oration in Gandhinagar on the same evening, presenting a vision for education as a catalyst for nation-building and strengthening Australia-India relations. The Annual Oration is delivered each year by prominent figures in the bilateral space, such as former Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Varghese, and former Australian High Commissioner to India and New South Wales Premier, Barry O’Farrell. Deakin University will offer two postgraduate courses to students at the GIFT City campus – A master's in Cybersecurity (professional) and a Master’s in Business Analytics. Each course will accommodate 60 students from the June 2024 academic session.
